An emotional support therapy dog named Dallas is getting lots of attention at Foundation Chiropractic in Lutz, FL.

What is pet therapy?

The term pet therapy is quite broad. It includes animal-assisted therapy and other animal-assisted activities. Here’s the thing about animal-assisted therapy — it is an evolving field that uses animals like dogs to facilitate recovery from various health problems like cancer, heart disease, and mental health disorders.

A patient can interact with a trained animal during a pet therapy session. Of course, this interaction will be done under the guidance of the pet’s handler. Pet therapy helps the patient cope with or recover from a mental disorder or health problem.

Dogs and cats are most used in pet therapy. Usually, I bring my two dogs (husky and corgi) into the office to improve the patients’ experience.
