L-arginine is an amino acid. Your body needs it to function optimally. Like other amino acids, L-arginine is heavily involved in the build-up of muscles and the rebuilding of tissues.

This has piqued the interest of researchers, causing them to investigate how effective L-arginine is in the treatment of wounds, tissue wasting in chronic illnesses, and even viral conditions like COVID-19.

What is L-arginine?

L-arginine is an amino acid found in the blood. It releases nitric oxide into the blood. Nitric oxide plays a vital role in widening blood vessels, which may enhance some circulatory conditions.

The human body is capable of producing L-arginine under normal conditions. Therefore, L-arginine is also sourced from certain foods.

Fish, red meats, eggs, and dairy contain very little L-arginine. The amount of L-arginine in these foods helps the body replenish its resources.

In some cases, a person’s body may require more L-arginine than the body produces naturally. This is true in most cases for the elderly or people with some underlying medical conditions.
