Dizzy Spells and Fibromyalgia
Understanding Their Connection
People with fibromyalgia often experience dizziness along with their other symptoms. Let’s dive into why this might happen and then discuss a straightforward and effective way to manage it.

What is Dizziness?
Dizziness can feel different for different people. You might feel like you’re about to faint, feel lightheaded, or even feel like the room is spinning. For many people with fibromyalgia, dizziness is a common issue, and it can happen often and last a long time. This can make daily life more challenging and increase the risk of falling and getting hurt.
Dizziness generally falls into two categories:
1. Vertigo: This is when you feel like you or everything around you is spinning. It’s usually caused by a mismatch between the signals your brain receives from your body’s balance systems. If you have vertigo, you might feel sick to your stomach, throw up, or have trouble walking or keeping your balance, which can sometimes lead to falls.
2. Lightheadedness: This feels like you’re on the verge of fainting, but without the sensation that your surroundings are moving. You might also feel clammy, pale, or nauseous. It’s often due to a temporary drop in blood pressure and reduced blood flow to the brain. Lying down usually helps it pass.
